You write a beautiful Urdu post, and on a friend’s phone the letters look disconnected, the punctuation sits at the wrong end, or the text shows up as boxes. Here is why that happens and how to avoid it.
Why Urdu looks different on different phones
When you post text, you send letters, not a picture. Each reader’s phone then draws those letters with its own fonts. Some phones have a Nastaliq font, some only Naskh, and very old ones may be missing some Urdu letters entirely. The text is correct; the drawing differs.
Problem 1: Letters appear as boxes or question marks
The text was probably not in Unicode. This happens when text is copied from old InPage or from certain “Urdu font” apps that draw Urdu using special symbols. Convert it to real Unicode Urdu first. For InPage text, use our InPage to Unicode converter.
Problem 2: The full stop or question mark is on the wrong side
Mixed English and Urdu confuses text direction. Start the post with an Urdu word, not an emoji, number or English word, and the app will usually treat the whole paragraph as right-to-left.
Problem 3: It looks plain or disconnected
The reader’s phone is using a basic font. You can’t change their font, but you can share an image instead of text for anything where the look matters, such as quotes, poetry, announcements or status updates.
The easy fix: share your Urdu as an image

Platform tips
- Facebook: long Urdu posts read best as text; use an image for short quotes and poetry.
- Instagram: captions support Urdu, but the post itself is an image, so the “Save as image” route works perfectly.
- WhatsApp: chats handle Urdu text well on modern phones. For a status, an image keeps the look you chose.
